Testing for Growth – NWEA MAP
What is the MAP Test?
The NWEA MAP Test (Measures of Academic Progress) is an adaptive achievement and growth test. It creates a personalized assessment by adapting to each student’s learning level—precisely measuring progress and growth for each individual student. If your child correctly answers a question, the computer assessment provides a harder question next. If they miss that same question, then an easier question is asked. This provides essential information about what your child knows and is ready to learn.
Valley View Adventist Academy students take the MAP tests three times during each school year. The first test is taken in September to assess each student at the beginning of the school year. The second test is given in January to provide insight into how best to work with the student in the remaining semester. The final MAP test of the year is taken in May.
How are the MAP results used?
Reliable insights make it simple for teachers to plan for differentiated instruction, develop interventions for struggling students, and see what students are ready to learn next.
Teachers can confidently tailor instruction to challenge every student, whether they are below, at, or above grade level. MAP Growth student reports also present realistic learning goals by subject areas. Through their teacher’s guidance, students can individually see their progress and be inspired to take charge of their own learning.
